Reasons Why You Should Switch to LED Car Headlights

led car headlights

LED car headlights are not new and has been in the automotive industry for over a decade. However, it is only now that we see less and less cars with conventional halogen or older headlight bulbs.

Yes, most modern cars today comes with LEDs as a stock lighting system. Whether it’s the headlights, brake lights, park or even interior lights, LEDs are now the most popular or even practical choice. Why is it?

In this short blog post, I will discuss why LED car headlights are now the dominant force in the market, its advantages and reasons why you should switch to LED for your car.

What is LED?

LED in automobiles are made of light emitting diodes or simply called as LED. They are semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current flows through it.

Light emitting diodes comes in different types, class and sizes. Some are even super tiny, it can fit the smallest layer of string used in various purposes.

In other terms, LEDs can be used or applied in almost everything you can think of. Plus, LEDs are made to last longer than most conventional bulbs making them so enticing in almost any market.

And one such market is the automotive industry where almost all modern car makes and models are now using LEDs for headlights, day-time running lights, park lights, brake lights and interior lighting.

Advantages of LED Car Headlights

There are numerous reasons why LEDs are far superior than older types of light bulbs. They are much clearer, effective and of course, energy efficient.

Here are some advantages of using LED car headlights for your car.

Increases Fuel Efficiency

So how in the world can an LED car headlight affect fuel consumption? Well, the answer is actually pretty simple – it draws less energy which helps make your car more fuel efficient.

And if you save fuel, you also save more money in the long run, especially with high fuel prices today.

For example, most car headlights have 55 to 70-watt incandescent light bulb that gives about 800 lumens. In comparison to LED, you only need a 10-watt LED bulb to produce the same amount of brightness. Imagine the energy consumption difference of that.

LED Lasts Longer

There is no debate here, LED car headlights or even other types of LED bulbs last longer than conventional halogen bulbs. How is this possible?

Well, LEDs have a longer lifespan because they have no working parts that will easily burn out or break over time. A single diode is very robust and will not quickly wore out.

A quality LED can last up to 50,000 operating hours (that is my modest estimate), which is 5 to 8 times longer than conventional light bulbs.

Improved Safety and Visibility

Incandescent, halogen or other old type of bulbs emits too much heat which is not good especially if applied in vehicles.

In contrast, LED emits almost no heat making it a safer choice for car owners. Since LEDs consume less power, they are also less-prone to short automotive electrical systems.

And since LEDs gives more brightness and light distribution, it gives you, the driver, the best visibility on the road. And good visibility when driving increases your safety.

Plus, LEDs illuminates faster compared to conventional halogen bulbs by at least 0.54 seconds. That gives you faster response when you need immediate visibility on the road.

LED Car Headlights are Environmentally Safe

Conventional bulbs do contain mercury which requires adequate handling after the bulb serves its full lifespan. You will never worry about that with LED car headlights.

Also, LEDs emits zero ultraviolet emissions which means that everything that LEDs illuminate on the road are safe from harmful effects of UV emissions.

Reduced Car Maintenance Cost

If LEDs are energy efficient, provides better lighting, improves fuel economy, lasts longer, and environmentally safe, what does that tells you?

Well, it means that you are less likely to do frequent light replacement, which will significantly reduce your vehicle maintenance cost for both parts and labor.

So using LED car headlights can also be helpful for your overall automotive maintenance.

Summary

There you have it! I hope you learned something about LED in this post. So if your car still uses non-LED car headlight, then you probably want to replace them immediately and get all these benefits.

Below is one of my videos regarding LED replacement on my MonteroSport. I availed one of the most reliable, quality and highly popular LED car headlight brands in the country – Keon Sondra.
