We purchased a brand new 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander last August of this year and I already identified the goods and the bad about this MPV (multi-purpose vehicle).
If you are based in the mainland US or Europe, this car is likely not available in your country as this car is only available mostly in Asian markets. However, I still want to share with you some of its advantages and disadvantages and also to give you ideas if its truly a value for money car.
MPVs are commonly fitted with naturally aspirated 1500cc in-line 4 gasoline engine which puts out between 104 to 120 break horse power and about 120 plus nm of torque. And since this is designed for Asian market, MPVs offer 7-seater capacity with large compartment totaling to about 580+ liters of space (with 2nd and third row seats folded).
And Mitsubishi Xpander do offer these numbers. So if you want to know more about MPVs especially Xpander, then this written-based review is for you.
So without further ado, lets start the review!
Modern Interior and Exterior Design
As the subtitle above suggest, the all new 2023 (facelifted) Mitsubishi Xpander does come with a futuristic and modern front grill and headlights design.
According to Mitsubishi, the all-new Xpander comes with their so called “T-Shape” headlights that are all equipped with LEDs. It is also feature a two-in-one turn signal and day-time running lights located above the headlights, making the car looks more aggressive.
The LED tail lights at the back are also T-shaped just like at the front. Below the tail lights are two reflectors which makes the car more visible on the road especially at night.
Mitsubishi Xpander also features an upgraded 17-inch wheel set wrapped with 205x55x17 tires.
One of the features that makes this car stand out from its competitors are its overall length specifications. Here are the numbers:
- Overall Length: 4,475mm
- Wheelbase: 2,775mm
- Width: 1,750mm
Why are these important? Well, these numbers tell that Mitsubishi Xpander is bigger than its competitors by an inch or more.
The interior design is equally impressive and modern. Equipped with a digital/analog combination gauge cluster, a 7-inch infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, digital climate control, leather seats in a seven-seating configuration, and a bunch of storage spaces.
Comfortable and Convenient Driving
The Xpander is equipped with modern engine, transmission and braking systems that will help give you a comfortable, relaxing and convenient driving experience.
First, the high ground suspension is not that superb, but also not bad either. With soft and firmer suspensions that are ideal for city driving, you can’t go wrong with Mitsubishi Xpander.
For relax driving comfort, this MPV is equipped with cruise control, electric auto parking brake with brake auto hold, and a very smooth and light electric powered steering wheel.
You’ll also get a huge front windshield which gives you better view of the road, thus lessening the probability of frontal collisions.
Engine, Transmission and Safety
Mitsubishi Xpander offers a 1.5 liter DOHC Mivec engine that gives you better acceleration with fuel economy. Yes, with eco mode and Over-Drive function, you’ll get more miles with this car.
This MPV also have a 4-speed CVT transmission with Eco-Dynamic CVT feature. This gives you better acceleration and a smoother ride considering that it only has a 1.5 liter displacement engine.
For safety, Xpander comes with anti-lock braking system, dual SRS airbags, a rear-view camera, side-door impact beams, active stability control, traction control, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, push start button, and a keyless entry feature.
Some Things for Consideration
Of course, there’s no perfect car out there especially if we are talking about entry level MPVs. They are offered for a cheap price so don’t expect extra features to come with it. This is not a supercar mind you that!
First to consider when buying a Mitsubishi Xpander is its engine power. As said above, this MPV is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated gasoline engine which is enough for city driving.
However, you shouldn’t expect this type of engine to give you that sudden boost of speed on the highway because it won’t give you that. Also, the transmission is only 4-speed. So expect that high rpm for every shifts.
Other negative things that I noticed about this car are just minors. However, if you want to know them, then here are the list:
- Doors are hard to close
- There is no sunglass holder
- Seats are not motorized
- Low end variants exists so more features are eliminated
- Engine sits too low inside the compartment, making it hard for DIYers to do oil changes
So is Mitsubishi Xpander Worth Buying as Your Next Daily Car?
The answer to that is absolutely YES!
For a reasonable price tag, the negative things mentioned above are all outweighed by the features and driving experience that this car can give. You’ll get that modern look with modern amenities that all car owners are looking for in a brand new car.
Of course there are some bad things about Mitsubishi Xpander. But is it truly a value for money? Yes it is and is probably the best MPV in the market that you can buy today!
