There are many car anti-theft devices that you can use to help keep your car safe for the duration of your ownership.
After all, no one wants to be a victim of car theft especially that owning a vehicle these days can be so expensive, and some even consider these four-wheel automobiles an investment. So you have to put some layers of protection for your beloved car and prevent it from getting stolen.
So in this blog post, I’ll give you 5 of the best car anti-theft devices that you can use for your vehicles.
Best Car Anti-Theft Devices to Keep Your Car Safe
There are variety of devices in the market that you can use to keep your car safe from thieves. However, I am not going to include overly popular anti-theft gadgets that we already know of like car alarm systems or car dash cameras.
I will list here 5 of the very best car anti-theft devices that will truly help add some more protection for your car. Here are the list!
RFID Signal Blockers
Thieves are getting smarter in recent years especially those car snatching criminals. They know how to override any modern car alarm system so you must innovate too in order to avoid your car getting carnapped.
One such thing that you can use are signal blockers or RFID signal blockers.
Our car keys have their own unique signal that is coming from key transponders. This signal can be copied by car hackers and can be used to produce their own transponder which will enable them to open your car and steal them from your garage.
To combat this, signal blockers are made to help prevent hackers from scanning your transponder’s data. What makes this device really cool is that, they are easy to carry and is quite cheap to own one. Plus, since it is an RFID blocker, you can also use this as protection for your credit cards and IDs.
Steering Wheel, Pedal, Hand-Brake and Wheel Locks
Common devices that we use as part of car security are car locks, which are also widely available in the market. There are different car lock types and you can choose which one suits best for your car.
-
- Steering wheel lock
- Pedal lock
- Hand-brake Gear lock
- Wheel lock
Out of these four types, steering wheel locks are probably the most common and cheap. Steering wheel locks also varies in design. Some are only used to lock the steering wheel itself, and some are designed to lock both the steering wheel and the brake pedal.
Pedal locks on the other hand, are car anti-theft devices that are installed either on the brake or on the clutch pedal, which prevents these pedals to get pressed. Pedal locks are mostly used in manual transmission cars.
Hand-brake gear lock is designed to lock both the hand-brake and the gear shifters so thieves won’t be able to shift to Drive or change gears (manual transmission). Hand brake gear locks are designed for a specific car, so you need to ensure that the lock you are purchasing is designed for your car’s make and model.
Lastly, you can use wheel locks to secure one of your wheels while your car is parked. This type of car lock device is commonly used by government officials for reprimanding motorists who had traffic violations.
Though you can also buy one for personal use, a wheel lock is just more expensive to acquire one. But they are much stronger and reliable compared to other locks mentioned here.
GPS Trackers
Want a cool way to protect your car? If so, then you need GPS trackers!
These devices are not new and are quite readily available since global positioning system was made available to the public. GPS trackers work by sending special satellite signals that are processed by a receiver which tells the user the exact precise location of the device.
Modern GPS trackers requires a sim card, map application and a smart phone to access all of its features. You simply hide the tracker inside your car and leave it as is. You just need to charge the device once in a while and that’s it, you have a live tracker on your car.
Having a GPS tracker can give you peace of mind though most car geeks only use trackers as their last line of security. So if you haven’t bought one yet, then this is the perfect time to invest a GPS tracker for your vehicle.
Here is my recent post where I discussed the importance of having GPS trackers in your vehicle.
Kill Switch
So what is a kill switch? Is it an effective way of preventing car theft?
A kill switch is a “switch” that is wired to one of your car’s vital ignition components such as fuel pump relay, battery, fuse box, ignition and many others. Its main purpose is to “kill” the power to that accessory when the switch is on.
When the switch is off, then the wired connection is reestablished which lets the driver to start the car’s engine.
Okay, this is not a device but a mechanism that can greatly prevent your car from being stolen. Old but still valued cars often have kill switch installed because most of them don’t have insurance anymore. However, you can install a kill switch even if you have a modern car.
Installation is quite easy. You just need a regular switch with on and off toggle, crimper, wire (gauge depends on your install), electrical tape, etc. Basically that’s all you need. Commonly, a kill switch is connected within the fuel pump relay wire, though other components will produce similar results.
Just look for your car’s fuel pump relay wire and connect the switch from there. This will interrupt the power going to the relay which kills the function of the fuel pump. No fuel pump means that your engine will be deprive of fuel so it won’t start.
After that, you’ll just have to decide where to hide your kill switch so thieves won’t be able to find them easily inside the drivers area.
Throttle Controllers
Surprised? If you are, then I completely understand because throttle controllers are designed to improve throttle response. But how does a throttle controller help prevent car theft?
By the way, before I proceed, check out my previous post regarding the pros and cons of using throttle controller here.
Okay, as I mentioned above, throttle controllers are devices that helps reduce or completely eliminate throttle lag. Throttle response in stock engines are quite slow as it is designed to achieve efficient fuel consumption and to compliment all types of driving habits for all motorists.
Using a throttle controller will not make your engine more powerful, but it will improve your engines throttle response. This allows the driver to accelerate harder, faster and get that needed boost of speed especially when needed.
Well, not all throttle controller brands have anti-theft feature especially those Chinese knock off cheap products that are readily available online. You can only get this feature on quality throttle controller brands that are insanely expensive.
Afterall, spending more gives you a more durable throttle controller that will truly last, and always come with a warranty. So how does a throttle controller work as an anti-theft device?
Simply use the anti-theft mode on your throttle controller and you will see that your accelerator pedal is not going to work. The thief can still turn on the car, but they can’t drive the car without the accelerator pedal working.
Once the thieves realize that they can’t drive fast with your car, then will certainly going to abandon your vehicle and look for other car elsewhere.
Summary
There you go! All of these devices are sure way to help protect your vehicle from thieves and save yourself from a stressful experience.
You can actually use these 5 devices and have a perfect protection for your car. But it is entirely up to you if you really want to overkill your vehicle security program.
So if you truly love your car, an additional layer of security won’t hurt your finances and will give you that peace of mind!
